Robyn and Ray are two of the most easygoing and personable hotel owners we've ever met. We arrived to Sointula prepared for a quiet, isolated two days but did not know that the grocery store co-op and its few restaurants do not open on certain days, and so we were left stuck for dinner on our one night stay. There was a gas station that sold frozen pizza etc and the hotel does have a great fully equipped kitchen for guests to use. But instead of just letting a pregnant woman eat junk food for dinner, Robyn immediately offered to have Ray cook us a 'simple' meal to get us through the night. She told us to go off, explore the island, call her on our way back and a meal would be ready for us for a small extra charge when we returned. We didn't expect that they would have prepared a private dining table in their closed restaurant for us, overlooking the beach, with a three course meal and drinks. Ray cooked the most beautiful salmon dinner and they left us alone for as long as we wanted to enjoy the sunset as we ate. Honestly, I panicked a little when I first thought we were stuck for dinner that night, but Robyn and Ray came to our rescue and made our stay so much more special. That kind of personal touch probably was easier for them to do that day because there were very few tourists on the island (off season and just before the coronavirus restrictions were put in place) but honestly I feel like they are just those kind of people. Our hotel room was also beautiful, a dog friendly super comfortable room with a balcony overlooking the water. And as for the island, we pretty much had it to ourselves and so it really felt like an escape to paradise. We drove every road and did some short hikes all in the one day. I cannot wait to go back again in the summer to hopefully catch a view of the whales on Bere Point beach.

Hotel was right on the waterfront and near the Ferry Terminal so perfect if you needed to get an early ferry ride. Restaurant was overlooking the water. Rooms were comfortable.

Thank you for a great stay Robin & Ray! I was able to park my motorcycle right beside the side door to bring my things up/downstairs. The space was the best stay I have had and look forward to coming back again. The kitchen had everything that one would need. Amazing views from the two sitting rooms; the blankets made it perfect to sit while the sun set. The space was clean and cozy. The pub next door was more of a shoulder shrug. I didn’t like the smoking on the patio thing. But I believe this is allowed in other places too. Didn’t affect my stay which was amazing. Going to the various spots to see on the island made the Oceanfront a great central place to be.
June 21st. 2018: Very friendly. Nice rooms. Great experience. Found our Finnish ancestors at the museum.

It really did feel like being on a cruise ship only the balcony was much bigger and closer to the water. My daughter and I stayed one night but wished it could have been longer. The hotel is cozy, clean and felt very safe. The owner, Robin, is a very sweet lady and I bought one of her beautiful, hand quilted jackets which I will cherish. She sells an assortment of other handicrafts that she makes which are unique and beautiful. We stayed in room 208 which was lovely and would recommend everyone splurge a little for an ocean front room. Location of the hotel is close to everything you need. There is a pub and restaurant below but we were not affected by any noise. Very relaxing and will definitely stay there again if back in pretty Sointula.

On April 20, 2018 I arrived by ferry on Malcolm Island. I was booked into the Oceanfront hotel for 2 nights. When I arrived the owner of the hotel mentioned to me that my room faced First Street and not the ocean. She offered me an ocean-side room at a decent rate and I took her up on her offer. Before settling on a room she showed me 2 of the ocean-side rooms. The view of the water was spectacular. As the hotel is very close to the BC Ferries terminal, I would watch the arriving and departing ferries. The water activity is minimal and, therefore, the location is quiet and peaceful. The owner of the hotel was very helpful. She told me about the trails and how to get there. As my arrival in Sointula was prior to the busier tourist season, there were only limited places to eat. She contacted the Upper Crust Bakery in my presence to find out how long they would be open on April 20. The baker, Victor, was making pizzas that night. I later attended there and had an awesome homemade pizza. The hotel's proximity to the ferry terminal makes for easy access to the ferry. Having a car is a bonus, but not a necessity if you are looking for a very quiet, relaxing time. The ferry connects to Alert Bay for no additional charge and the places to see at Alert Bay are within walking distance. I was very impressed with the Oceanfront Hotel. The current owner has been there for 34 years and was a wealth of information. There are maps and brochures in the reception area. This is a place that I will return to without hesitation and would recommend it to others.
- Gastgeber haben uns von sich aus geupgradet und Zimmer mit Meerblick gegeben. Mussten nicht drauf zahlen. Super nette Gastgeber und der Blick vom Zimmer aufs Wasser ist unbezahlbar.
